Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC. Today we interact with horses in a number of ways: riding them for entertainment, using them as therapy animals, as farm workers, and, of course, racing them for sport.
People have been racing horses for thousands of years. In legends, horses were often described as mediums between the spirit and material worlds. Certain Celtic tribes used a white mare as an oracle. Arabic tales exalted the horse's sixth sense. Horses were also believed to carry riders between the seen and unseen realms and lead people to lost knowledge.
