Create your own closed ecosystem at Yoder’s Red Barn Shoppes in Shipshewana, IN!
Every month, we’ll feature a special aesthetically pleasing, Pinterest-worthy project centered around plants. We figured we’d start off easy with one of our most requested projects: an enclosed self-sustaining terrarium.
Choose from a variety of 2” ferns and assorted tropical plants, or upgrade to one of our newer, harder-to-find babies that just hit the shelves.
Guests will receive a choice of two terrarium styles:
- $95 – Black framed clear enclosed glass house – 8¾” × 6”
- $20 – 1-2" mini or micro cylinder
Workshop Experience:

Pick your vessel

Choose your plants (3 for the house or moss chunks for the micro mini)

Lay down your decorative sand
- Add larger drainage rocks for the house or more sand for the micro mini

Separate the layers with screen or fabric

Place your dried moss layer and mist with water

Add activated charcoal

Sprinkle in your soil layer

Arrange your plants, compact the soil, and level to your preference

Mist the plants and soil to clean off excess dirt

House - Decorate the final layer with the stone color that vibes with you
- Add optional trinkets or fairy garden accessories for extra flair
